Kisumu Central MP Fred Ouda has announced that he will move to curt to seek interpretation on a motion he had presented in parliament seeking to bar the Deputy President from vying in 2022, after the lapse of the 10-year tenure.

The motion also sought to have deputy governors who have served two terms blocked from succeeding their bosses in subsequent elections.

Speaking in Kisumu, Ouda said that the motion will be back in parliament after 60 days, this time “with amendments.”

”I will not be intimidated by the comments that were made by Parliamentarians when the motion was rejected,” said Ouda.

The motion was shot down by the legislators on grounds that it contradicted Article 137 of the constitution.

However, Ouda held ground that the term of the President and that of the Deputy President, as well as those of the Governors and their deputies are intertwined.

“The election of the President and the DP are intertwined. They both derive their authority directly from the electorate and, as such, they are only eligible to hold the office of the presidency for a maximum of two five-year terms,” argued Ouda.

He urged his fellow legislators to keenly study the Constitution before vilifying him.

Ouda however insisted that the motion was not targeting anybody in particular.
