Kisumu County is not represented at the ongoing Kenya Inter County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games in Kisii.
This after the county failed to finance a team of 267 players to the sixth edition of the games due to “financial constraints.”
The county was willing to present 103 players to fly their flag but it was all or nothing for the players.
“This is to notify you that due to financial constraints Kisumu County will not attend the games this year. It was impossible to cater for 267 players for the games in Kisii.
“After alternative of taking 103 to represent the county was unanimously rejected by all the players, the Governor has informed that Kisumu will return to the games in 2019,”Achie Ajany, the county’s line minister said in a letter.
The games that kicked-off on Monday will conclude on Saturday.
The decision was a bitter pill to swallow for some who feel that Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o’s regime is reneging on campaign promise to develop sports in the highly talented county.
The County is also yet to renovate Moi Stadium or put to action plans to erect a modern stadium as he promised before coming into office.
Despite staging some of Gor Mahia’s Kenyan Premier League matches, the Moi Stadium is of poor standards and cannot host international matches.
The stadium lacks basics like changing rooms and proper sitting.

The billowing smoke all affects players. Efforts to remove the garbage, as Nyong’o promised within 100 days of his term, have stalled.
