Former AFC Leopards interim coach Dennis Kitambi officially joined Dar giant Simba SC as an assistant to Patrick Aussems on Friday.

Kitambi left Leopards in May 2018 for a short reunion with his mentor Stewart Hall at Saif Sporting Club of Bangladesh.

He was recently offered a chance to return to the den, according to sources, but turned it down, instead choosing to go back to his native Tanzania for the Simba job.

Kitambi assisted Hall at Azam FC when they won the Cecafa Kagame Cup for the first time in 2015 against Gor Mahia.

While serving as the Ingwe’s stand-in coach following the dismissal of Robert Matano, Kitambi managed four wins, a similar amount of draws and two loses.

His attractive brand of football and witty post-match interviews endeared him to many fans.

Kitambi was equally loved and respected by his players.

He left Leopards fifth on the log – six points off the top of the log and was named the Kenyan Premier League coach of the month for March.

Kitambi’s next assignment will be in the hotly contested Kariakor derby on Saturday when old foes Simba and Yanga lock horns at Uhuru Stadium for three league points and most importantly the bragging rights.

Simba heads into the tie buoyed by the recent 1-0 win over Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League and are firm favorites to prevail.
