Tharaka Nithi Senator, Kithure Kindiki Elected Senate Deputy Speaker

Senator Tharaka Nithi, Kindiki Kithure has been elected Senate Deputy Speaker after garnering 38 votes in the second round of voting.

He has trounced Narok County Senator, Ledama Ole Kina who got 17 votes.

Kindiki was handpicked President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto during a Jubilee elected leaders meeting at the State House.

The legislator served as the Majority leader in the previous House. He has been replaced by Elgeyo Marakwet’s Kipchumba Murkomen.

Many have viewed his latest position as a demotion but the Senator said he asked for a less engaging job.

“I am the one who told the President to give me a less-engaging position because I want to play a critical role in national politics. I am a player in a team called Jubilee where Uhuru is the captain, DP William Ruto the assistant,” he said.
