KMPDC Orders Health Facilities In Petrol Stations, Residential Buildings To Relocate

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has issued a six-month ultimatum for health facilities operating in petrol stations and residential buildings to relocate or face closure.

In a statement on Wednesday, the council emphasized that such locations are unsuitable for medical services due to safety and health concerns. The directive is aimed at ensuring a secure and conducive environment for both patients and the general public.

“Health facilities located in restricted areas, such as petrol stations and residential buildings, must relocate within six months. Failure to comply will result in closure,” the council warned.

KMPDC explained that medical centers in these areas pose a significant risk of spreading infections among patients.

Additionally, petrol stations present hazards such as exposure to flammable materials, while residential buildings may lack the necessary infrastructure to support proper healthcare operations. The council stressed that disturbances in these environments compromise patient care and overall safety.

The directive comes just weeks after the Ministry of Health ordered KMPDC to shut down unregistered aesthetic clinics and beauty spas operating illegally across the country.

A recent inspection of cosmetic and plastic surgery clinics in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Eldoret found that while 77 percent met the required legal standards, 23 percent remained non-compliant.
