KNH Dismisses Staff After Brain Surgery Is Performed On Wrong Patient

Another scandal has grappled the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after a brain surgery was conducted on a wrong patient. The hospital confirmed the incident through a letter by the CEO, Lily Koros.

Reports show that there was an apparent mix up of name tags between two patients. One had a swelling on the head and the one who needed the surgery had a blood clot . The doctors realized the mistake hours into the operation after the found no blood clot. the ward nurse, the theatre receiving nurse and the anesthetist have also been suspended.

So far the Neurosurgeon registrar has been suspended and the hospital will convene a meeting with the medical  advisory committee to make a determination on the matter.

The hospital said that the patient who was wrongly operated on was in stable condition. They however did not indicate if the one who b=needed the surgery would actually undergo it.

This is the third time this year that the hospital is hitting news headlines for the wrong reasons. Last week a two week  old child was kidnapped within the hospital corridors in broad day light.

Last Moth there was an uproar after claim that mothers who had just delivered were being raped by mortuary attendants within the hospital.
