KPA MD Capt William Ruto injured in highway accident, daughter dies in Voi

The Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Captain William Ruto was involved in a tragic road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Voi on Friday.

The accident left his daughter dead, police said.

The accident occurred Friday night at Asali Bar area on the Voi-Taveta road.

Captain Ruto was driving a private vehicle carrying his family and two other passengers when it collided with a stalled Mitsubishi Fuso lorry that had obstructed his lane.

The driver of the lorry was not at the scene.

Tragically, one of Captain Ruto’s daughters, Mitchelle Chelimo Kemboi, lost her life.

The other passengers – three children-sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to Taveta Sub-County Hospital for treatment, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

The family had been traveling to Tanzania at the time of the accident.

Police officers quickly responded, processed the scene, and transferred the deceased to Taveta Sub-County Morgue.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the presence of the stalled lorry.

KPA confirmed the tragedy, saying, “We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident… Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident.”

“Capt. Ruto and the rest of his family are currently in stable condition and under close medical supervision. We remain hopeful for their full and swift recovery,” said a statement.
