Mt. Kenya United edged out AFC Leopards 2-1 in a mid-week KPL fixture at the Kenyatta Stadium – Machakos.

The loss was a rude welcome for Leopards’ new manager Andre Cassa Mbungo, who was overseeing his first game in charge.

The 51-year-old Rwandan joined the den on one and a half-year contract on Monday.

John Ndirangu “Softie” gave the visitors the opener in the 16th minute but Abdallah Salim responded for Ingwe with the leveler three minutes past the half hour mark.

The match ended 1-1 at the first interval.

The winner for Mt. Kenya, who ended Mathare United’s unbeaten run in their last game, came in the 73rd minute through Leopards’ old boy Timonah Wanyonyi.

Leopards lost to Bandari 4-1 away in Mombasa on Sunday leading to resignation of Serbian coach Marko Vasiljevic.

In the other midweek fixtures, Gor Mahia edged out Vihiga 1-0 through Nicholas Kipkirui’s header in the 44th minute at the Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega.

The goal was Kip’s second on the trot for K’Ogalo following Sunday’s strike in the historic 4-2 win over Zamalek SC of Egypt in the Confederation Cup.

Gor Mahia will next face AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby on Saturday at the Kasarani Stadium.

In Kisumu, home-side Western Stima electrocuted visiting Zoo FC of Kericho 1-0.
