kenya airways, KQ

Kenya Airways (KQ) will be offering direct flights to the United States after it was issued with a Foreign Air Carrier permit.

The national carrier has been allowed to engage in scheduled and charter foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail from any point in Kenya directly to the US by the the US Department of Transportation.

According to the Director Brian Hedberg, the permit takes effect on 5 September, 2017.

Hedberg also pointed out that they did not receive any objections following a request on June 12 for concerns to be forwarded to the department.

Interested parties were asked to give within 21 days reasons that would prevent the award of a permit to KQ for flights to Washington DC.

“We said that if no objections were filed, all further procedural steps would be deemed waived, and the department would enter an order which would make final the findings and conclusions of the order.”

In July, KQ was granted air traffic rights to the US awaiting the said permit that will boost the Kenyan tourism market.

Experts say the direct flights should take off in 60 days.
