KURA Issues 23-Day Night Road Closure Notice for Ngong Road

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary traffic interruption along Ngong Road near The Junction Mall from Tuesday, November 18, 2025, to Wednesday, December 10, 2025. The disruption will allow for the installation of a major steel structure as part of the ongoing flyover project in the area.
According to a statement issued on November 6, the affected section of the road will experience nightly closures between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, excluding Sundays. During these hours, traffic will be diverted to ensure work can proceed safely.
KURA explained that vehicles will be rerouted between the Nairobi City County Training School and the Kenya Science Campus to allow two-way traffic to continue despite the closure. Motorists have been urged to drive carefully, obey traffic signs, and follow instructions from police officers and traffic marshals stationed on-site.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused as we continue to transform urban mobility,” KURA said in the statement.
A map released by KURA shows that access to key locations—including The Junction Mall, Kenya Meteorological Department, and Kenya Science Campus—will remain open, although motorists may experience slow movement and reduced access at junctions such as Kingara Road and Naivasha Road.
Temporary lane markings and barriers will be used to guide traffic safely through the work zone at night.
The Ngong Road Flyover is part of a wider KURA project aimed at easing traffic congestion in Nairobi. The busy Ngong Road corridor connects the city center to major residential areas such as Dagoretti, Karen, and Ngong, and often experiences heavy traffic.
The flyover near The Junction Mall is expected to improve traffic flow, shorten travel times, and enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians. The installation of the steel structure requires nighttime closures to ensure the work is carried out safely.
