KWS rescues ostriches found with arrows embedded in their bodies
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has rescued two wild ostriches that were found with arrows deeply embedded in their bodies in Layamorok, Baringo County.
In a statement issued on Monday, KWS said the two ostriches were discovered with the arrows lodged deep in their bodies.
The wildlife agency said the birds had not harmed anyone and were simply living in the wild when they were attacked.
“Our Veterinary and Capture Team moved in to rescue them, carefully restraining the birds and removing the arrows,” KWS said.
The rescue operation gave the two ostriches a chance to recover after suffering injuries in the incident.
KWS said the discovery also raised concerns about other wild animals that may be suffering from injuries without being noticed.
“These two were lucky to be found. But how many others may still be suffering silently, unseen?” the agency said.
KWS urged members of the public to protect wildlife from cruelty and avoid harming wild animals.
“Their pain should remind us that wildlife deserves to live free from cruelty. Let us protect these ostriches, admire them from a distance, and allow them to remain wild and free,” KWS said.
