Amy Christine Dumas, professionally known as Lita, is an iconic American professional wrestler, singer, and WWE Hall of Famer.
Born on April 14, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Lita’s journey into the world of professional wrestling began with a spark of inspiration from watching Rey Mysterio Jr. on World Championship Wrestling as a teenager.
This fascination led her to pursue training in Mexico with the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) under the ring name Angelica, where she honed her high-flying skills and daredevil style that would later define her career.
Beyond the ring, she has ventured into music as the lead singer of the punk rock band The Luchagors and authored a New York Times bestselling autobiography, Lita: A Less Traveled R.O.A.D. – The Reality of Amy Dumas, which delves into her personal struggles, triumphs, and the realities of life in professional wrestling.
Her influence extends to founding the animal charity Amy Dumas Operation Rescue and Education (A.D.O.R.E.) in 2003.
Siblings
Lita has one sibling, a brother named Billy Dumas.
However, not much is know about Billy, including his personal life or career pursuits, as he leaves a private life compared to his famous sister.
Career
Lita’s professional wrestling career ignited in 1997 when she began training on the independent circuit, debuting as Angelica in promotions like Maryland Championship Wrestling and NWA Mid-Atlantic.
Her big break came in early 1999 with a stint in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), where she performed as Miss Congeniality, managing wrestlers like Danny Doring and gaining exposure to hardcore styles that influenced her in-ring persona.
Signed to a developmental deal with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, later WWE) in August 1999, she made her television debut on February 13, 2000, alongside Essa Rios on Sunday Night Heat, helping him capture the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship.
After parting ways with Rios amid a scripted feud, Lita aligned with brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy to form the groundbreaking faction Team Xtreme, known for their innovative high-flying maneuvers and extreme hardcore matches, including Lita’s participation in the infamous Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) bouts.

Her ascent continued with a high-profile rivalry against Trish Stratus, marked by intense, physical confrontations that elevated women’s wrestling visibility.
Lita’s on-screen romance with Matt Hardy blurred into real life, adding layers of drama, especially during the 2005 scandal involving her affair with Edge, which WWE cleverly wove into storylines, boosting ratings and Edge’s main-event status.
A storyline “marriage” and “pregnancy” with Kane in 2004 further showcased her versatility, blending horror elements with athleticism.
Plagued by injuries, including a severe neck issue requiring surgery in 2002, Lita demonstrated remarkable recovery, returning stronger each time.
She retired in 2006 at Survivor Series, losing her final match to Mickie James, but made triumphant comebacks, including a 2012 win over Heath Slater on Raw 1000 with legends’ assistance and a 2022–2023 run where she competed at Elimination Chamber and joined forces with Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus.
Post-retirement, Lita has appeared in WWE video games, hosted radio shows, and mentored emerging talent.
Accolades
Lita’s first reign came on August 21, 2000, defeating Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley in Raw’s main event—a groundbreaking moment as one of the few women to headline the show solo.
Subsequent victories over Trish Stratus in 2002 and 2004, and Mickie James in 2006, showcased her resilience and in-ring excellence, with the 2004 win marking the first all-women’s main event in Raw history without male involvement.
In a historic 2023 milestone, Lita captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Becky Lynch on Raw, defeating Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky with Trish Stratus’s aid—her first title in 17 years and making her the first female Hall of Famer to win gold post-induction.
Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014, presented by rival-turned-friend Trish Stratus, Lita joined the ranks of wrestling immortals, recognized for revolutionizing the division with her high-risk style and breaking barriers for future generations.
Her autobiography topped the New York Times bestseller list in 2003, offering intimate insights into her life and inspiring fans worldwide.
Additional honors include rankings such as No. 6 in PWI Female 50 (2006) and features in documentaries like Nine Legends (2016), affirming her enduring impact.
