Love triangle suspected after bar stabbing leaves two men dead in Kisii

Two men died after an alleged stabbing incident at a bar in Marani Sub-County, Kisii County, with police suspecting a love triangle may have triggered the confrontation.
Bonface Amwoma Okeyo was allegedly stabbed inside a toilet at Club Dados Bar on Monday night.
The suspected attacker, Dennis Mayaka Asago, was later attacked by an angry mob after he locked himself inside another toilet.
Police said both men died from injuries sustained during the incident.
The incident was reported by a 21-year-old woman who works at the bar.
The woman said she was informed by a female customer known only as “Sister” that a man had been stabbed inside one of the bar’s toilets and was lying injured, while the alleged attacker had locked himself inside a different toilet.
Police rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident.
The injured Okeyo had reportedly been rushed to Nyangena Hospital in Kisii town by a bodaboda rider. He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said Okeyo had sustained a single stab wound on the left side of his chest, suspected to have been inflicted with a sharp object.
Meanwhile, Asago was forcibly removed from the toilet where he had locked himself after the alleged stabbing and was subjected to mob justice by angry members of the public.
He succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault.
Police processed the scene and recovered the two bodies, which were taken to separate hospital mortuaries pending post-mortem examinations.
The body of Asago was taken to the Marani Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary, while Okeyo’s body was preserved at Nyangena Hospital mortuary.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a dispute involving an unidentified woman could have triggered the confrontation between the two men, police said.
The suspected murder weapon had not been recovered but police said they were searching for it.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the alleged stabbing and the subsequent mob attack.
Murder incidents linked to love triangle have been on the rise in villages amid efforts to address the same.
Some of the cases are pending unsolved, police said on Tuesday.
