The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have criticized the police over the arrest of lawyer Zamzam Abib saying that it was malicious.
Police pounced on the lawyer on Friday before the long Easter weekend, she was arrested on what the President of the Law Society of Kenya Allen Gichuhi said was a purely civil matter.
He said that the arrest was malicious and that the LSK was going to write a protest to the inspector general as the police had violated the constitutional right of a Kenyan.
“It’s very malicious. There is more than meets the eye. This is a young lady, she is a mother, she has ulcers, they are just keeping her there for no reason and we will insist on having a meeting with the IG himself. This is unacceptable. We are not just talking about her as a lawyer but the rights of every Kenyan citizen,” Allen Gichuhi said.
He also said that they had tried to have her released on bail but the police refused without giving adequate reasons.
“We have tried since Friday to have the police release her on bail and they have refused. We can’t understand why. The offence that they are claiming to be investigating is stopping an RTGS instruction, surely!”Gichuhi protested.
The lawyers say that the police were being used by the extortionists who were also the complainants.
