The law society of Kenya (LSK) has sued the government over the passing of the Finance Act of 2018. The chairman Allen Gichuhi said that the Bill would affect the cost of living.
The LSK said that the act was also passed without Public participation.The President signed the bill into law on September 21 saying that the government would cut down on expenditures but he would not reject the bill as the country need money to develop.
The Finance Act 2018 states that cashless/mobile money transfers excise duty will be increased from 12 per cent to 20 per cent, a 66 per cent increase.
Fuel would be the most affected commodity with Kerosene users will also be hard hit as an adulteration fees at the rate of Sh18 per litre will be introduced on all illuminating kerosene imported into the country for home use in a move that will push the commodity’s retail price much closer to diesel.

The cost of fuel would grossly affect the cost of living of ordinary Kenyans who are now forced to deeper in to their pockets for basic commodities.
