Lucas Erik Holger Bergvall is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the Sweden national team.
Born on 2 February 2006 in Stockholm, Sweden, he stands 1.87 metres tall and has established himself as one of the most promising talents of his generation.
Coming from a deeply football-oriented family in the Stockholm area, particularly the Bromma suburb of Ängby, Bergvall rose quickly through the ranks of Swedish football before making the jump to one of Europe’s top leagues.
He has represented Sweden at multiple youth levels and made his senior international debut in 2024, later becoming the youngest Swedish player to appear at a FIFA World Cup when he featured at the 2026 tournament.
Siblings
Lucas has two brothers who are also involved in professional football, reflecting the strong sporting culture within the family.
His older brother, Theo Andreas Bergvall, was born on 21 September 2004.
A right-back, Theo came through the same IF Brommapojkarna youth system as Lucas.
The pair transferred together to Djurgårdens IF in late 2022.
Theo later spent time on loan back at Brommapojkarna and, in January 2026, moved to Swiss Super League side Lausanne-Sport on a multi-year deal.
He has also earned caps for Sweden at under-19 and under-21 levels.
The youngest sibling, Rasmus Bergvall, was born on 9 July 2008.
Like his brothers, he progressed through the Brommapojkarna academy and signed his first professional contract with the club’s senior side in December 2025, around the age of 17.

Career
Bergvall began his youth career at IF Brommapojkarna in 2013.
He made his senior debut for the club in the lower divisions and contributed to promotions, including appearances in Superettan as the team rose to the Allsvenskan.
In December 2022 he joined Djurgårdens IF alongside his brother Theo.
At Djurgården he became a regular in the Allsvenskan, scoring goals and drawing widespread attention with his technical ability, vision, and physical presence in central midfield.
Scouts from major European clubs took notice, and in February 2024 Tottenham Hotspur agreed a deal reported at around £8.5 million to sign him, with the transfer becoming official on 1 July 2024 after he remained with Djurgården for the first half of the year.
At Tottenham he made his Premier League debut in August 2024 and quickly adapted to the higher level, featuring regularly in league, cup, and European competitions.
In his first full season he contributed to the club’s run to the UEFA Europa League title.
He has since added appearances in the Champions League and continued to develop as a versatile midfielder capable of playing in deeper or more advanced roles.
Internationally, after progressing through Sweden’s youth teams, he earned his first senior cap in a January 2024 friendly and was selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, where he made history with his debut appearance.
Accolades
With IF Brommapojkarna, Bergvall was part of teams that won the Ettan Norra in 2021 and the Superettan in 2022, securing successive promotions.
At Tottenham Hotspur he was a member of the squad that won the UEFA Europa League in 2025 and finished as runners-up in the UEFA Super Cup the same year.
Individually, his outstanding debut season at Spurs in 2024–25 earned him a clean sweep of the club’s major end-of-season awards: the Official Supporters’ Clubs Player of the Season, the One Hotspur Members Player of the Season, and the One Hotspur Juniors Player of the Season.
He became the first teenager since Glenn Hoddle to achieve such recognition at the club.
Bergvall was also nominated for the 2025 Golden Boy award, finishing among the top contenders, and has been regularly highlighted in lists of the world’s best young talents, including The Guardian’s Next Generation series.
