Maic Ndongala Namputu Sema, born on 2 December 1988 in Åsele, Sweden, is a Swedish professional footballer of Congolese descent who primarily plays as an attacking midfielder or forward.

He is known for his technical ability, ball control, and versatility across offensive positions.

Sema’s parents left Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the late 1980s and settled in Sweden, where Maic was born and raised.

He has built a lengthy career across multiple countries and Swedish leagues, later returning to lower-division football.

Siblings

Maic is the older brother of Ken Nlata Sema, born 30 September 1993 in Norrköping, a fellow professional footballer who has represented Sweden at senior international level and played for clubs including Östersunds FK, Watford, Udinese, and more recently Pafos FC.

The brothers grew up in a football-oriented family; their parents, including mother Kiadila, have publicly expressed pride in both sons’ careers and a long-held dream of seeing them play together.

Career

Sema began in the youth ranks of IF Sylvia before making his senior debut with the club in 2007–2008.

He moved to Hammarby IF in the summer of 2008, remaining until the end of 2011 and establishing himself as a fan favourite, particularly during the 2011 Superettan season.

In January 2012 he transferred to Norwegian side FK Haugesund, where he spent several seasons and was loaned to Dutch club MVV Maastricht in 2013.

After leaving Haugesund following the 2014 campaign he had a spell with Cypriot club AEL Limassol in 2015.

He returned to Sweden with Örebro SK for 2016–2017, briefly joined Indian Super League side NorthEast United in early 2018, then moved to GIF Sundsvall later that year.

In August 2019 he joined IFK Norrköping, the main club associated with his hometown area, and stayed until the end of the 2023 season.

After a period without a club he signed for Division 2 side IK Sleipner in March 2025, continuing to play into 2025–2026.

Over his career he has accumulated hundreds of appearances and dozens of goals across Allsvenskan, Superettan, Eliteserien, and other competitions.

Accolades

During his time at Hammarby, Sema was voted Player of the Year by the club’s fans for the 2011 season after scoring ten league goals.

He appeared in the 2010 Svenska Cupen final with Hammarby, finishing as runner-up.

With AEL Limassol he won the Cypriot Super Cup in 2015/2016 and was a runner-up in the Cypriot Cup.

Additional recognitions include a runner-up finish in the Atlantic Cup.
