Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party leader Julius Malema was angry at election officials asked his wife to remove her artificial nail after voting.
He said that the official offered a pair of scissors to Ms.Mantwa before she could be marked to have voted. The leader asked the official if he was going to pay to replace the nail.
“There was some official who said to my wife that she must take out her nail so that they can put a mark. And I found that bizarre because where is that written in the rules that women who have long nails can’t vote?” Malema posed.
He said that those rules were patriarchal and that the officials should move away from those rules. He asked if women would be asked to remove their wigs in order to vote.

“The next thing they are going to say that women must take out weaves because they want to see if it is them on their IDs. Such nonsensical things, it starts small like that and before you know it, it is something like that is institutionalized. It must be challenged even now,” he told South African journalists.
