Man arrested after uncle found dead following night altercation in Siaya

Police in Siaya County arrested a man following the death of his uncle after a violent confrontation at a homestead.
According to the police, the incident was reported on Sunday at around 10:00am.
The suspect told police that at about 4:00am, while asleep at his home in Ngungu Village, Kabura Uhuyi, he was attacked by two unknown men who were in the company of his uncle, Joseph Otieno Nderma.
He alleged that during the confrontation, he acted in self-defence, wrestling with the three and managing to disarm his uncle of a panga before fleeing to hide in a nearby bush.
The suspect further claimed that upon returning to his home later in the morning, he found his uncle lying motionless outside the house, prompting him to report the matter to police and surrender the weapon.
Police visited the scene and found the body of the 65-year-old man lying outside the homestead with visible injuries, including bruises on the face, chest and back, as well as marks on the neck suggesting a struggle.
The body was moved to the mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
The suspect, who also sustained bruises on the face and hands, was taken into custody to assist with investigations.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the role of the two unidentified individuals allegedly involved in the attack.

Police who visited the scene noted an old scar on the left side of his head.
Family members told investigators that the deceased had been assaulted on February 25, 2026, at Mukuru Kayaba stage in the Industrial Area, where he was allegedly struck on the head with a weighing machine by a person known to them. The assault had been reported at South B Police Station.
The victim was initially treated at Lengo Medical Centre in Mukuru Kayaba, and a P3 form was later filled at a facility in Nairobi, documenting the injuries sustained.
The body was moved to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.
Police said they are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death and to take action against the suspect.
