Man arrested as police seize Sh2.65 million cannabis consignment in Bungoma

Arrested

Police in Bungoma County have arrested a man and seized 88.5 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis sativa valued at an estimated Sh2.65 million.

The suspected narcotics were intercepted on Saturday, August 8, 2026, during a routine patrol along the Maliki-Wabukhonyi Road.

Police said a multi-agency security team, including officers from Mukuyuni Police Station, flagged down a suspicious motorcycle believed to be transporting the consignment.

The rider allegedly attempted to evade the officers, prompting a pursuit that ended with his arrest and the recovery of the suspected cannabis.

The consignment had an estimated street value of Sh2,655,000.

The suspect is being held in police custody as investigations continue. The motorcycle and the suspected narcotics have been secured at Mukuyuni Police Station as exhibits.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast and uncompromising in its efforts to dismantle illegal drugs and narcotics supply chains across all transport corridors, and once again thanks members of the public for their continued cooperation,” police said.
