Man attacks and kills girlfriend, sets house on fire in Kasarani

A man attacked and killed his girlfriend in a domestic fight in Kasarani area, Nairobi.

The assailant is first said to have attacked the woman identified as Yvonne Munywoki, 21, using an axe before he tried to set the house on fire on Wednesday October 29, 2025 evening .

A relative of the woman had rushed to the police saying she had called her saying the man was assaulting her and becoming violent.

Police rushed to the scene and found the house locked from inside even as the woman was screaming for help.

It was then that smoke started to pillow from the house prompting the locals and police to break in.

They found the two lying on bed with injuries and blood stains on the floor. They were rushed to the hospital where the woman was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

The man was admitted at the hospital in a serious condition.

It emerged he wanted to die by suicide and had burnt the woman’s clothes, police said.

Police said the man used an axe to attack the woman in the jaw and head. There were deep cuts on the body.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as investigations go on.

Along the Mombasa Highway in Kibwezi, the body of one Jamal Akbar, 32 was found with a deep cut on the back of his head.

The man had been missing in the area for two days before the body was discovered off the road by a traffic police officer.

The police said they are investigating murder in the saga.

In Igembe, Meru County, two suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of one Jeremiah Mwenda, 35.

The man succumbed to his injuries in hospital after an assault.
