Man beheaded in brutal killing in Meru County

Police in Imenti South Sub-county, Meru County launched investigations into a gruesome murder after a man was found beheaded by the roadside in Kiogone area.

The incident was reported on Wednesday morning, April 1, 2026, at around 9:18 a.m. who had been ferrying milk to a depot in Kionyo when they stumbled upon the body.

Police officers from Murungurune Police Station visited the scene at Chionkaga village in Kiamiugu, Upper Kiogone sub-location and said the deceased was identified as Anthony Mwenda Muriithi, a 40-year-old man.

Authorities established that he had been brutally attacked and killed, with his head severed from the body.

Police combed nearby bushes in search of the missing head, but it was not immediately recovered.

The scene was processed by crime scene investigators, and the body was moved to Kanyakine Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Investigations into the motive and perpetrators of the killing are ongoing, with detectives from DCI Abogeta leading the probe.

And police in Kakamega Central Sub-county are investigating a tragic incident in which an 18-year-old man died after a quarry collapsed on him while harvesting sand.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at around 1:00 p.m. in Achibeywa area within Butsotso South location.

Police said Sylvester Ambani, had been trapped when the quarry caved in.

The deceased was in the company of other workers harvesting sand when the quarry suddenly collapsed, burying him beneath a heap of sand.

His colleagues, with the help of members of the public, managed to rescue him while unconscious.

He was rushed to a nearby private clinic before being referred to Butere Sub-county Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.
