    Man dies by suicide after failed attempt to murder sister-in-law in Kisauni

    Police in Kisauni, Mombasa County, are investigating an attempted murder and suicide incident in which a 28-year-old man allegedly attacked his sister-in-law before taking his own life.

    According to the police, members of the public alerted police to the incident at Bombo area in Bamburi within Kisauni Sub-County on Monday afternoon.

    Police officers who rushed to the scene established that Hussein Charo, 28, had reportedly quarreled with his sister-in-law before allegedly hacking her on the head with a panga.

    Police said the suspect then proceeded to his house where he allegedly stabbed himself in the chest and neck, dying on the spot.

    The injured woman was rushed to Coast General Hospital for treatment while police processed the scene.

    Authorities said the motive of the attack remains unknown and no suicide note was recovered.

    The body of the deceased was moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy as investigations continue.

    Suicide and murder incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them.

    Elsewhere, police in Embu East Sub-County are investigating the sudden death of a church watchman who was found dead at his workplace in Iriari area.

    Police said the body of Joseph Kinyua Muvia was discovered on Monday morning at St James Emmaus Church in Kasarani Iriari.

    Police said the deceased, who worked as a watchman at the church, was found unresponsive while at his place of work.

    The body was moved to Tenri Ena Mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

    And police in Tigania East, Meru County, recovered the body of a suspected herder believed to have been caught up in a shooting linked to an attempted stock theft incident.

    A team of police officers revisited the scene on Monday and conducted a search in the area before recovering the body of a man identified as Mwenda Gitonga, 25, a resident of Nkuthukia in Igembe Central.

    Police said the deceased was a herder attached to the Ntamira manyatta. Preliminary investigations indicate that he sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, with the bullet exiting through the back.

    The scene was processed by investigators and the body moved to Miathene Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

    Authorities said security operations in the area have been intensified, with National Police Service and National Police Reservist officers conducting patrols as investigations continue.
