Man dies in borehole after rescuing a trapped colleague in Bungoma

A 40-year-old man died in a borehole as he rescued a colleague who had been trapped therein while cleaning the well in Mayanja village, Bungoma County.

Police and locals said Edward Naliakho had entered the 50-foot borehole to rescue a colleague who had been trapped there.

The colleague had ventured into the borehole to remove trash that was dirting the water. According to the police and locals, Naliakho managed to rescue the colleague.

However, as he was struggling to come out, he fell back into the water and was trapped. This was after he complained he would not breathe.

His body was later removed by fire brigade from the county and moved to the mortuary for other procedures, police said.

In Holo, Kisumu County, a man was found dead on the roadside after an attack.

Police said they were informed the body of the man was lying at the scene with wounds in the head.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Elsewhere in Funyula, Busia County, a man was found dead in an abandoned quarry behind their house.

Police identified the deceased as Francis Ojiambo Momala, 73. His body had a deep cut on the head and a bruised left knee.

The man had come to the area for a funeral vigil when he was murdered.

The motive of the murder was not established following the discovery of the body on January 15, police said as they moved it to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And police arrested a suspect over a murder incident in Marafa area, Kilifi County. The suspect was taken to the station by his father following the murder of one Charles Charo, 50 on Wednesday night at a joint in an altercation.

Police said the suspect will face murder charges.
