Man drowns in Nanyuki hotel swimming pool

A 33-year-old man drowned while swimming at Sportsman Arms Club in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, on Sunday afternoon.
Police identified the deceased as Patrick Mathenge, who had checked into the hotel at about 1pm on September 20, 2026, before later proceeding to the swimming pool.
According to the police, Mathenge drowned at around 2pm while swimming. Good Samaritans retrieved him from the pool and rushed him to Huruma Hospital in an attempt to save his life.
He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Police officers visited the hotel and later proceeded to the hospital.
The body was examined at the hospital, with police reporting that no visible injuries were noted.
The body was subsequently preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, police in Mombasa have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified man whose body was found dumped by the roadside in Jolaurabi area, Kisauni.
The body, believed to be that of an African male aged about 33, was discovered by members of the public on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
The man had been wrapped in a grey and red bedsheet, black nylon paper and three small sacks before being dumped by the roadside.
Police reported that the body had injuries on the left side of the chest, while the right eye had been gouged out.
The injuries are suspected to have been inflicted using a sharp object.
Investigators recovered three artificial ladies’ nails, a Safaricom SIM card holder and a Malaysian dollar at the scene.
The scene was secured and documented as detectives began collecting evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and identify the deceased.
The body was taken to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending autopsy and identification
