Man drowns in septic tank while draining sewer waste in Marsabit

A 30-year-old man died after he slipped into a septic tank while draining sewer waste at a business premises in Marsabit town.

The deceased, Enos Masogo, was reportedly working at or with Abyssinia Juicy Cafe when the incident occurred on Tuesday night.

Masogo slipped into the septic tank at about 11:30pm while workers were draining sewer waste.
Crime scene investigators from Marsabit County processed and documented the scene before the man’s body was retrieved.

The body was taken to Marsabit County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police also took into custody a three-wheeler motorcycle that was being used to transport the waste, together with a submersible pump found at the scene, as exhibits to aid investigations.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.

And a 36-year-old man died after a sandbank collapsed on him while he was harvesting sand along the Kwamboo River in Kinanie, Machakos County.

The deceased, Kioko Mbula, was harvesting sand in Kwambo Village on Tuesday afternoon when the sandbank suddenly collapsed, trapping him underneath.

Kioko was suffocated after being buried by the collapsing sand, police said.

The colleague, who was working nearby when the sandbank collapsed, reported the incident to the authorities.

Police officers from Athi River Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Athi River and crime scene investigators from Kitengela, visited the site and documented the scene.

The deceased’s body, which had no visible physical injuries, was retrieved and taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police have recorded the incident as an accidental death and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sandbank collapse.

Meanwhile, police in Mbeere South, Embu County, have launched investigations after the decomposed body of an unidentified person was discovered inside a well on a farm.

The body was found on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at a farm within the area after a 15-year-old boy, identified as Joseph Mulandi, went to cut sugarcane and noticed something unusual inside the well.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body in an advanced state of decomposition.

The gender and identity of the deceased could not immediately be established due to the condition of the remains.

Crime scene investigators from Embu processed the scene before the body was retrieved from the well. The police report indicated that the skull remained submerged in the well, with efforts underway to recover it.

The remains were taken to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary, where they are being preserved pending a postmortem examination and DNA analysis.

Detectives have launched investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding the death and how the body ended up in the well.
