Man drowns while swimming in private dam in Machakos

A 20-year-old man drowned while swimming in a private dam in Nthangathini Village, Ndithini Sub-County, Machakos County.

The incident was reported to police on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased was Joshua Mutuku Muisuo, a 20-year-old man.

According to police, Muisuo drowned while swimming in the private dam.

Members of the public helped retrieve his body from the water. Police said there were no visible injuries on the body.

The remains were taken to Tala Hospital mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

And police in Cheptais, Bungoma County, have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found floating in the Malakisi River.

The body was discovered on Monday, August 10, 2026, at about 5pm in Kimama Central Village, Chemondi Sub-location, Chemondi Location.

According to a police report from Chesikaki Police Station, 17-year-old Dawin Kiprop Sioy, a Sabaot, had gone to the river to take a bath when he spotted the body floating in the water.

Police officers were alerted and proceeded to the scene, where they recovered the body.

Officers processed the scene and reported that there were no visible injuries on the body.

The remains were removed and taken to the Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending identification and autopsy.

Police have commenced investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and circumstances surrounding his death.
