Man fatally attacked by nephew in domestic fight in Kirinyaga

Police in Kirinyaga East Sub-county are investigating the murder of a 50-year-old man who was allegedly attacked and fatally injured by his nephew during a domestic dispute.

The deceased, identified as Samuel Waweru Gacau, sustained multiple injuries on the legs and hands as well as deep cuts to the head that reportedly penetrated the skull during the attack that occurred early Wednesday May 13 morning.

According to police, the incident happened at around 3am when the deceased’s brother heard screams coming from his house, with the victim allegedly crying for help and saying the attacker wanted to kill him.

The brother rushed to the house in an attempt to rescue him but found the suspect had locked himself inside with the deceased and continued assaulting him using a panga and a piece of wood.

The commotion attracted members of the public who demolished part of the mud-walled semi-permanent house to gain access and rescue the victim.

Samuel Waweru Gacau was initially rushed to Kianyaga Sub County Hospital before being referred to Kerugoya Level 5 Hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.

Police said the suspect was arrested and is being held at Kianyaga Police Station pending further investigations.

A panga and a piece of wood believed to have been used in the attack were recovered from the scene and preserved as exhibits.

The body was moved to the mortuary at Kerugoya Level 5 Hospital awaiting postmortem examination as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations continue with investigations.

And police in Masaba South Sub-county, Kisii County, are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man who was found unconscious at Nyamasibi Centre before being pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

The deceased was identified as Peter Gekonge Onchiri.

According to police, the incident was reported on Wednesday morning.

Police said the deceased was found unconscious at around 10am at Nyamasibi Centre and rushed to Nyamasibi Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was last seen alive on Tuesday night at around 10pm while drinking at Diaspora Pub.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Gucha Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination to establish the cause of death..

Elsewhere, a 25-year-old woman was found murdered by the roadside along the Keroka–Kisii highway in Masaba North Sub-county, Nyamira County, police said.

The body of the woman, identified as Kwamboka Nyangaresi, a resident of Nyabiosi village in Taracha location, Kisii County, was discovered on Wednesday morning about six kilometres west of Keroka Police Station.

Police officers who visited the scene found the victim lying naked in a supine position with her head covered using a red jumper.

According to police, the woman had a deep cut on the head and blood was oozing from her nose.

Preliminary investigations indicate the body may have been dumped at the scene after the killing.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Gucha Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination and further investigations.

Police have launched investigations into the murder and efforts to identify those behind the killing are ongoing.
