Man fatally hit while trying to separate fighting couple in Kakamega

A 32-year-old man was hit and killed as he tried to separate a couple that was fighting in a village in Malinya, Kakamega County.
Police said Owen Savai had responded to a neighbour’s house where there was commotion and an altercation between a couple.
It was then that the man in the fight used a wooden stick to hit Savai in the head and fatally wounded him, police said.
He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
The assailant escaped the scene and was yet to be arrested on Friday, police said.
In Butere, Kakamega County, police are investigating murder, in an incident where two men were lynched by a mob over claims they were livestock thieves.
The individuals were flashed out of their homes and killed elsewhere by a blood baying mob.
The first incident happened along Eshirembe-Ishihaka Road where one James Ambunya, 24 was found dead with multiple body cuts.
He was accused of being a cattle thief in the area.
He had been picked up from his house and killed on the roadside, police said.
In Musanda area, another man identified as Wycliffe Were, 27 was killed about 50 meters from his house. Police said the deceased was picked up from his house by a mob that stabbed and hacked him. His mother who heard him scream for help said she tried to get out of their house but found it locked from outside.
She added the assailants warned her against screaming for help.
It was until hours later that a neighbour came to open for her and found the man had been killed.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.
Police discourage against mob lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to the authorities for processing.
