Man found dead under tree in Tharaka Nithi

Police in Muthambi, Tharaka Nithi County, are investigating the death of a 47-year-old man whose decomposing body was found under a tree in a farm.

The body of Douglas Keraite was discovered at Kanyakine Village on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The incident was reported after a village elder discovered the body lying under a tree in a shamba belonging to a local.

Police visited the scene and secured the area before Crime Scene Investigation officers photographed and documented it.

Relatives later identified the body as that of Keraite.

The body, which had started decomposing, was moved to Chuka Level 5 Hospital mortuary for preservation pending further investigations and a postmortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

And police n Imenti East, Meru County, have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a middle-aged man whose body was found in his farm with severe injuries.

The body of Charles Mutwiri was discovered on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 in Maganjo Village, Kiamwitari Sub-location, within Thuura Location.

Members of the public alerted police after discovering the lifeless body in the farm. Police visited the scene and found Mutwiri lying in a pool of clotted blood.

Police said the deceased had severe injuries, including a deep cut on the neck. His right ear was missing and both his upper and lower lips had allegedly been cut off.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the man may have been killed about three days before his body was discovered.

DCI officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and identify those responsible for the killing.
