Detectives are investigating the murder of a 34-year-old man whose body was found dumped in a maize plantation in a village in Kabati, Muranga County.

The body of Kennedy Njoroge was found with stab wounds in the head, abdomen and neck. The suspected killer weapon was also found dumped in the plantation, police said.

The motive of the murder was not immediately known. Police said they recovered a note next to the body indicating the victim was a common thief in the area and was targeted. The note added there were more suspects on target over the alleged crimes in the area.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

And a man escaped unhurt after his Mercedes Benz saloon car caught fire while on the road near Kiambu High School, Kiambu Town.

The owner of the car said he was driving along Kamiti Corner-Kiambu road when the car caught fire on Monday morning.

He told police he stopped the car on noticing smoke from the bonnet and jumped out while seeking help. This was after he had hit rubbles that were at the scene. The car was reduced to ashes and later the wreckage was moved to the police station yard pending investigations.

Elsewhere in Ntimaru, Migori County, suspected thieves vandalized a four-wheel drive car and poured salt into its engine in a bizarre incident. The motive of the attack on the car belonging to the Angata Sugar Mills was not immediately known. The car had been parked at the scene after it developed mechanical problems, police said.

A team is investigating the incident. The area is experiencing tribal clashes which have left more than a dozen people dead and many displaced. Authorities have imposed a dusk to dawn curfew for a month to address the menace.
