Man found shot dead and dumped along the road in Murang’a

Police in Kandara, Murang’a County, launched investigations after the body of an unidentified middle-aged man was found dumped along the Kiranga–Kahaini road.

The body was discovered on Sunday morning after a resident was alerted by a neighbour who was on his way to church and noticed the lifeless man lying by the roadside.

Police officers, visited the scene and began investigations.

Police said the man, who is yet to be identified, was found lying on his back with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the chest, with the bullet reportedly exiting through his back.

His left wrist had been tied using a black piece of tyre tube, which had left a deep cut. Blood stains were also visible on his back and around his mouth.

No identification documents or other items that could help establish his identity were recovered from his pockets.

A resident told police that he was awakened by his dogs barking at around 3.20am on Sunday. He went around his compound to establish what had caused the disturbance and heard a motor vehicle speeding away along the road towards Kahaini.

He returned to his house after failing to establish the cause of the disturbance.

Investigators are now pursuing the possibility that the man could have been killed elsewhere before his body was transported to the location and dumped.

Scene of Crime officers processed and documented the area as detectives began collecting evidence that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

The body was later removed and taken to Murang’a Mortuary, where it was preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination.

Police are also expected to establish the identity of the deceased and determine whether the suspected gunshot wound was the cause of death.

And the body of a 31-year-old woman was found floating in the Sinon River in Marakwet East, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, on Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Gladys Jepkemoi, was discovered in the river at Segut Sub-location.

The incident was reported to police at about 7:50am on August 22, 2026, by a man identified as David Kosgey.
Police officers visited the scene.

According to family members, Jepkemoi had suffered from epilepsy since childhood.

Police said the body had no visible external injuries, although the exact circumstances surrounding her death remained unclear.

The scene was documented and processed before the body was retrieved from the river and moved to the Kapsowar AIC Mission Hospital mortuary.

A postmortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death as investigations into the incident continue.
