Man killed in fire incident in Embu

Police are investigating an incident where a 93-year-old man was killed in a fire incident in Manyatta area, Embu County.

The incident happened on April 22 in Itithe village and affected one Joseph Njagi, police said.

He was sleeping in the house when the fire broke out, police said, adding his body was burnt beyond recognition. The house was made of timber, and it is believed this accelerated the spread of the fire.

The man was alone in the house at the time of the incident. The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Elsewhere in Gaitu area, Meru County, a minor was killed in a quarry accident.

Police said Alex Ngentu was in a quarry excavating stones for construction when its walls collapsed and trapped him.

Police said the victim had head injuries. The body was moved to the mortuary for autopsy.

Elsewhere in Kasarani area, Nairobi, the body of a man was found floating on a river in Ruaraka area. He was later identified as Amos Omango. It is not clear how he died, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary for autopsy.

In Ngarengiro, Laikipia County, a child aged 11 drowned in River Nanyuki in an incident.

The body of the girl was retrieved and moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Police said they are investigating how the girl drowned. Dozens of people have in the past months died through drowning in a worrying trend. This was caused by flooding which has also displaced many people.
