A man poisoned his eight-year-old son in a tragic incident in Mwariki, Nakuru County.

A second child aged two-and-half-years was admitted in hospital in a serious condition after consuming the poison in their house on February 15, 2026, police said.

According to the police, the man behind the incident used juice and unknown poison in the mission.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known.

The couple had traveled to a different home in the area and left their two children with their house help.

They went to solve their marital quarrels.

The husband came home at dawn on Sunday and went to the master bedroom where the children were sleeping.

He then went to the kitchen and picked up a packet of juice that he poured into a glass that had what is suspected to be poison and went to the bedroom.

He woke up the children and fed them with the laced juice before he left the house.

The house help said she later learnt the children were vomiting and crying of pain before rushing them to the hospital.

The boy succumbed while being attended to while his younger brother was admitted in serious condition.

Police were informed and visited the scene. The team picked up the juice and other exhibits for analysis as part of their probe. The police said they were looking for the man for grilling over the incident and added they were investigating murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man was fatally stabbed in a fight over a mobile phone in Migosi, Kisumu County.

Police said Raphael Omondi had sustained a fatal stab in the chest in the altercation that started from a drinking joint in the area.

The said assailant was rescued by police as he tried to escape the scene and after he had been cornered by a mob who wanted to lynch him in the Sunday incident.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as police recovered the killer knife at the scene.

Police said the assailant would face murder charges.
