Man robbed of Sh280,000 after leaving bank in Kisumu

Police are pursuing a gang that robbed a man of Sh280,000 moments after he had left a bank in Sondu, Kisumu County.
Sondu lies between Kisumu and Kericho Counties.
The man told police he had on Wednesday January 14 visited the local KCB bank and withdrew Sh300,000 for use at home. He went shopping and spent Sh20,000 before he jumped on his pick-up heading to his Magwagwa home in the neighbouring Nyamira County.
It was then he noticed a salon car was trailing him. The car blocked his way and five men jumped out while armed with what he thought to be a pistol.
They grabbed the cash and his car key before jumping back to their car and sped off towards Chabera, the victim told police.
Police visited the scene and announced they were pursuing the gang. This is the latest incident to happen where people are robbed of cash after leaving banks. Police say investigations show most of the incidents happen out of collusion between some rogue bank staff and the attackers.
Other attackers usually hang in banking halls to monitor transactions before striking when the customers leave the premises.
A number of suspects have been arrested and charged with serious offences while some cases pend unsolved.
For instance, a man was robbed of Sh650,000 after leaving two banks in Nyali, Mombasa County. The case is under probe and no arrest has been made so far.
Elsewhere in Kiamachimbi, Nyeri County, police are investigating an incident where a gang raided the local Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) located at Kanyama village and stole property.
The gang escaped with two speakers, three speaker stands, two thermos flasks, Holy communion cups, a microphone, assorted electronics and a black bag.
Police officers visited the scene where it was established that entry was gained by breaking the backdoor of the said church. However, the time of the incident is not known, police said.
The police are investigating the incident that happened on Wednesday.
In Waithaka, Nairobi, a woman was carjacked and robbed of her car before being abandoned in Kajiado.
Police said they are pursuing the gang behind the incident in which the Toyota Axio car was robbed.
