Man robbed of Sh500,000 after leaving bank in Nairobi

A man was attacked and robbed of Sh500,000 moments he had left a bank in Nairobi Central Business District.
Police said the man had left Absa Bank, Queensway Branch within the CBD and was walking towards Luthuli Avenue when he was attacked at about 3 pm on October 30, 2025.
He and his colleague had been to the bank where they withdrew Sh2.5 million. The colleague left with Sh2 million towards Wabera Street for other businesses while the victim headed for Luthuli Avenue.
On arrival near the Archives area, he was accosted by about ten men who strangled and robbed him of the money. The men escaped soon after the robbery.
The victim screamed for help in vain. The police arrived at the scene moments later and found the man looking confused following the attack while the attackers had escaped.
The police said they are reviewing CCTV footage both from Absa Bank and within the Archives vicinity to assist in identifying the suspects.
It is believed the men had prior knowledge of the movement of the money.
Police also want to interrogate the bank officials who handled the customers.
This is not the first time such an incident happens to customers after leaving the bank.
Police investigations have shown there is an insider job in the trend.
Detectives are yet to solve past such incidents that happened in the city centre.
Elsewhere in Malindi, police are investigating an incident where thugs covering their faces with masks broke into apartments and robbed tenants who included foreign tourists of their cash and other valuables.
The incident happened at a private residence and saw a tourist from Poland robbed of clothes, cash and other electronics.
They also attacked an apartment belonging to an Italian of cash and electronics before escaping.
Police are pursuing the gang of ten behind the incident.
