    Man shot and injured by police in altercation in Kakamega Market

    Police are investigating an incident where a man was shot and injured during a confrontation with police at a market in Matungu, Kakamega County.

    Police on patrol said they spotted two motorcycles being ridden with two pillion passengers each moving around the market suspiciously.

    They then tried to stop them but a mob intervened prompting a confrontation in the May 19 incident. According to police, the mob pelted stones at them prompting one of the officers to shoot to the air.

    This did not stop the mob from pelting more stones. It was then the officer opened a burst of eight bullets injuring one man in the crowd in the thigh and stomach.

    He was rushed to hospital in serious condition. Police said they have opened an investigation into the incident.

    In Ndiru, Homa Bay County, a man fell and died in his house.

    The body of Frednand Odhiambo Oyugi, 28 was found with an injured nose. Police said blood was oozing from his nose and it is suspected he fell and fatally injured himself.

    The body was moved to Homabay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination.

    In Isiolo, a body of a man was found outside the local stadium gate after suspected murder.

    The body had a physical stab wound on his right side of the chest.

    Police said the body was taken to Isiolo County Referral Hospital Mortuary, awaiting proper identification and postmortem examination.

    In Gatanga, Muranga County, a man aged 45 was hacked to death by his cousin in an altercation. The body of Samuel Ndungu Ndugua, was found lying on the ground unconscious with blood oozing from his nose and ears.

    The assailant claimed the deceased had insulted him on several occasions. The deceased was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    The motive is due to a land dispute, police said. The assailant was later arrested pending interrogation and possible prosecution.

    In Masinga, Machakos County, a 31-year-old man died after a tere he was cutting fell on him. The incident happened in Ulaani village.

    Police visited the scene and found the body of Joshua Ngayai crushed after the tree landed on him. The body was moved to the local mortuary pending probe and autopsy.

    Meanwhile, in Ruiru, Kiambu County, a 25-year-old woman was found dead after a suspected suicide incident. Police said the body of Wendy Ongayo was found hanging on a nylon rope and tied to a curtain rod hanger.

    She had been to a salon before she came back to the house on May 18 where the body was found. Her boyfriend said they had earlier on left the house as the woman went to the salon and he went for his errands.

    The woman as wearing a polythene bag on her head when the body was found. Police said a suicide note was found in the house.

    The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
