Man shot dead outside his home in Migori
A 35-year-old man was shot dead by unknown gunmen while waiting for his wife to open the gate to their home in Ntunyigi area, Kuria West, Migori County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at around 8pm, police said.
The deceased, identified as Peter Kimera, was driving a black Toyota Harrier when he was attacked near his home.
Police said the gunmen, who were armed with a rifle, opened fire from the left side of the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Police visited the scene following reports of the shooting.
Five spent cartridges and one live 7.62mm x 39 calibre round were recovered at the scene. A deformed bullet head was also recovered from the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
The vehicle had visible gunshot damage on the left front wing and the driver’s seat.
Kimera’s wife rushed him to Oasis Hospital in Kehancha Township, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body, which had gunshot wounds to the left hand and left side of the chest, was moved to the Kehancha Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police said the motive for the shooting had not been established, noting that nothing appeared to have been stolen from the deceased.
Investigations into the killing are ongoing as police work to establish the identity and whereabouts of the attackers.
The area has been experiencing a surge in armed crime amid efforts by authorities to address the same.
Elsewhere, a 35-year-old man died after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest by another man at a bar in Dede area, Awendo, Migori County.
The incident was reported at around 10pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after the man was allegedly attacked at Delta Bar within Dede Shopping Centre, West Sakwa Location.
Police identified the deceased as Evans Omondi Odhiambo, a resident of Otacho area.
According to police, Odhiambo was stabbed in the chest by a man known by the nickname “Dida”.
He was rushed to Migori County Referral Hospital for treatment but died while undergoing treatment.
Police officers from Awendo Police Station, together with DCI officers, visited the scene and commenced investigations.
The motive for the attack has not been established.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene and remained at large as of the time of the police report.
Odhiambo’s body, which had visible injuries to the chest, was moved to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
