A man surrendered to a local police station saying he had killed his 85-year-old grandmother in Ugenya, Siaya County.

The suspect walked to the station saying he had killed the woman identified as Jennifer Aduor Aoko, prompting police to visit the area in Diere village.

The team found the body of the woman lying in a pool of blood. It was established that the deceased stayed with the assailant. The incident happened on May 28.

Police said an ace and a spade that had bloodstains were found at the scene and are believed to have been the murder weapons.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Elsewhere, a pillion passenger was shot and killed in an ambush by unknown gunmen along Ndumuru-Mea road, Meru County.

The gunmen did not steal anything from the victim after the shooting on May 27 night.

A rider told police he and the deceased who was identified as Moses Gikundi plus another passenger were headed to Mea when on reaching Kaleso Nyange area when they were shot at.

Gikundi fell off as the rider sped off from the scene. They reported the matter at Mea Police station. It was until the following day when police visited the scene and found the body of Gikundi lying on the roadside.

He had a bullet wound on the chest. The motive of the attack is yet to be known. The area is however experiencing increased attacks from bandits crossing from Isiolo and Samburu areas, police say.

This has left dozens of people dead and others wounded. The government has been staging operations in the area to address the issue.

In Kaptalamwa, Elgeyo Marakwet County, one Titus Kosgei Maiyo, 26 was found dead after suspected murder. The man was hacked to death in a confrontation by an assailant over a love triangle saga.

The assailant escaped the scene and efforts to get him for interrogation are ongoing, police said.
