Man surrenders to police after murder of three-year-old cousin in Webuye

A man surrendered to the police over the murder of his cousin in a village in Webuye, Bungoma County.

Police said the suspect was brought to the station by his mother following the murder of a three-year-old girl who was his cousin.

The body of the girl was on December 31, 2025 found in a room wrapped in a blanket after her murder in Shangalamwe village.

The motive of the murder was not immediately known, police said. The body of the minor was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

The suspect was later detained pending arraignment, police said.

Elsewhere in Butere, Kakamega County, a body of a man was found lying along a road in Mumakunda village.

Police said they are investigating murder after the man was identified as Victor Musonyi, 44.

The body had a deep cut wound in the left side of the neck suspected to have been inflicted by a panga, police said.

Police added they were yet to establish the motive of the murder which happened on New Year at 1 am.

The body was moved to the local mortuary pending an autopsy.

The hunt on the suspected assailants continued on Thursday January 1, 2026 hours after the murder, police said.

And police are investigating the murder of a 76-year-old woman in Muranga County. The body of Margaret Mukami was found dumped on the Muranga-Sagana highway after her murder.

She is believed to have been murdered elsewhere before the body was dumped on the roadside, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and hunt on the suspected killers. Her family visited the local mortuary where they identified the body following its discovery on December 31.

The motive of the murder remains unknown, police said on New Year Day.
