Manhunt Launched As Police Seize Over 10,000 Litres Of Kangara In Kangemi

Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for suspects behind the production and sale of illicit alcohol after a major raid in Kangemi, Dagoretti Sub-County.

During the operation, officers destroyed more than 10,000 litres of kangara, an illegal alcoholic brew.

Police also recovered 50 kilograms of jaggery, five packets of yeast catalyst, and 13 cartons of second-generation liquor.

“The exhibits have been secured, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the suspects behind the illegal trade,” police said in a statement.

The National Police Service (NPS) reiterated its commitment to the crackdown on illicit brews and second-generation alcohol, warning that they pose serious risks to public health and security.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation in Waithaka, also in Dagoretti Sub-County, officers intercepted a motorcycle linked to cannabis trafficking.

Police recovered 5 kilograms of cannabis and 192 rolls of the drug. The rider and passenger were both arrested and remain in custody pending arraignment.

“The two suspects are being held in custody pending processing and arraignment, while the evidence has been secured at the same facility,” police confirmed.

The NPS said it will intensify similar operations across the country and urged members of the public to share information that could help in curbing the sale and distribution of illicit brews and drugs.
