The court has awarded Sh.2.4 Million to a woman who sued Mater Hospital for negligence after suffering uterus perforation.
Senior Resident Magistrate P. Muholi said that the hospital failed to convince the court that the injuries suffered were beyond the hospital. She said that the explanation that she had procured an incomplete abortion before going to the hospital did not suffice.
The Magistrate ruled that prior to the woman going to the hospital she did not have perforations in her uterus.

The hospital had tried to distance itself from the injuries caused to the Betty Wakio stating that she had had many miscarriages in different hospitals prior to her visit to the hospital.
In 2013 the lady had visited a gynecologist at the Kenyatta National Hospital but was reffered to Mater Hospital . She suffered a miscarriage that led to an evacuation but still felt pain. She went back to hospital only to be told that she had a perforated uterus.
