Matt Baugh Appointed New UK High Commissioner to Kenya

Matt Baugh has been appointed as the new British High Commissioner to Kenya, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has announced.
In a statement issued on Monday, the FCDO confirmed that Baugh assumed office in April 2026, succeeding Neil Wigan, whose tenure ended in August 2025.
Prior to his appointment, Baugh served as Director for Migration and Conflict at the UK government’s ministerial department. He also previously held the position of Director for Euro-Atlantic Security at the FCDO.
The seasoned diplomat has extensive international experience, including serving in Brussels as the UK’s Ambassador to the EU Political and Security Committee and later as Director for Political and Security at the UK Mission to the European Union.
Baugh is also well known for his work on Africa policy, having previously served as the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Somalia.
His predecessor, Neil Wigan, has since taken up a new role as Director General for Strategy and Delivery at the FCDO in London.
