    Siblings

Max has one older brother, Ben, who has also been involved in sports.

While specific details about Ben’s athletic career are less publicized, he played baseball during his youth, which contributed to the competitive environment that shaped Max’s own athletic journey.

    Career

Meyer began his journey in baseball at the University of Minnesota, where he had an outstanding collegiate career.

During the 2019 season, Meyer recorded a 2.11 ERA with 87 strikeouts over 76.2 innings, solidifying himself as one of the top pitching prospects in the country.

His talent caught the attention of MLB scouts, and he was selected third overall by the Miami Marlins in the 2020 MLB Draft.

After signing with the Marlins, Meyer began his professional career in the minor leagues.

He played for teams like the Jupiter Hammerheads, Pensacola Blue Wahoos, and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

Over his time in the minors, Meyer accumulated a record of 10 wins and 11 losses with a 3.17 ERA across 230 innings pitched and 268 strikeouts in 50 games.

His performance showcased his ability to dominate hitters and raised expectations for his future in Major League Baseball.

Meyer made his MLB debut on July 16, 2022, with the Miami Marlins. However, his early major league career has been marked by both promise and challenges.

He has appeared in 13 MLB games, recording a win-loss record of 3-6 with a 5.86 ERA over 63 innings pitched and 52 strikeouts.

In the 2024 season, following his recovery from Tommy John surgery in early 2023, Meyer returned to action and pitched in 15 games.

During that season, he posted a 1-3 record with a more encouraging ERA of 4.34 over 58 innings while striking out 69 batters.

Despite setbacks due to injuries, including missing the entire 2023 season for surgery and rehabilitation, Meyer remains a highly regarded young pitcher with significant potential.

    Accolades

Meyer has achieved several notable accolades throughout his baseball career, reflecting his talent and performance at various levels of competition.

During his time at the University of Minnesota, Meyer was recognized as a 2020 All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and received the Big Ten’s Most Impressive Pitcher award for that season.

He was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten list and was a consensus Preseason All-American prior to the 2020 season.

His freshman year was highlighted by being named to multiple Freshman All-American teams, including those by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Perfect Game, where he earned the title of Collegiate Baseball Freshman Relief Pitcher of the Year.

In the minor leagues, Meyer continued to excel and was selected for the Futures Game in 2021 while playing for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

He was named a Baseball America Minor League All-Star, received the SOU Pitcher of the Year award, and was recognized as a MiLB.com Organization All-Star for his performance within the Miami Marlins organization.
