    Meat And Milk Consumption Banned In Eldas And Wajir West due to Rift Valley Fever Outbreak

    Meat and milk consumption has been banned by the county Government of Wajir following the death of four people in Eldas and Wajir West, from Rift Valley Fever (RVF). Four others have been hospitalised.

    This comes as reports indicate that over 40 camels and goats have died of the viral disease in the county.

    According to World Health Organisation, Rift Valley Fever (RVF) is caused by a virus transmitted by mosquitoes and blood feeding flies that usually affects animals (commonly cattle and sheep) but can also involve humans. In humans the disease ranges from a mild flu-like illness to severe haemorrhagic fever that can be lethal.
