Melanie C, born Melanie Jayne Chisholm on January 12, 1974, is an English singer, songwriter, and actress best known as Sporty Spice from the iconic 1990s pop group the Spice Girls.
Rising to global fame as part of the best-selling female group of all time, she has built a successful career both with the band and as a solo artist, known for her athletic image, powerful vocals, and enduring influence in pop music.
Siblings
Melanie C comes from a blended family with several half-siblings due to her parents’ separation when she was young.
Her parents, Joan Tuffley Chisholm O’Neill and Alan William Chisholm, divorced in 1978.
Her mother later remarried and had additional children, including her half-brother Paul O’Neill, a former motor racing driver and pundit who has appeared alongside Melanie on shows like Celebrity Gogglebox.
Melanie shares a close relationship with Paul, who is often highlighted in her family stories.
She also has a half-sister named Emma from her father’s side, whom she met later in life after discovering her existence during the Spice Girls era.
Her other siblings are Liam Chisholm and Jad Chisholm.

Career
Melanie C’s career launched in the mid-1990s when she joined the Spice Girls, formed in 1994.
As Sporty Spice, she brought energy, athleticism, and songwriting talent to the group, co-writing many of their hits.
The Spice Girls achieved massive success with albums like Spice (1996) and Spiceworld (1997), selling over 100 million records worldwide and dominating charts with singles such as “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life.”
After the group’s initial hiatus in the early 2000s, Melanie transitioned to a solo career, releasing her debut album Northern Star in 1999, which sold millions and featured hits like “Never Be the Same Again” (a collaboration with Left Eye from TLC) and the dance anthem “I Turn to You.”
She continued releasing albums including Reason (2003), Beautiful Intentions (2005), This Time (2007), The Sea (2011), and Stages (2012), blending pop, rock, and introspective styles.
Melanie has also explored acting, making her West End debut in the musical Blood Brothers in 2009 and later performing in Jesus Christ Superstar.
She has reunited with the Spice Girls for tours, including in 2019, and remains active in music, with her ninth solo album Sweat set for release in 2026.
