The deportation of self declared NRM general Miguna Miguna has put the government on the spotlight for unlawful detention and defiance of court orders but analysts say that his more of political rather than legal.

According to an analyst the same tactic of citizenship was deployed against Miguna in 2009/2010. In his book ‘Peeling of the Mask,’ Miguna says that the issue of him having a Canadian passport arose, he describes how foreigner was published against his name in all dailies. Miguna writes that his attempts to have his boss Raila Odinga sort his issues were met with coldness.

He says that he later found out that his citizenship woes were instigated by the ODM leaders. In his book the lawyer says that the declaration of his Kenyan citizenship by the then minister for immigration the late Otieno Kajwang was little too late as his image had already been tainted.

The analyst presupposes that the deportation/exiling of Miguna this time could have the same undertone as  some people within ODM might have feared the rekindled closeness between Miguna and Raila Odinga would be detrimental to their political careers
