An Induction for County chiefs and their deputies has been postponed for the third time in three months following disquiet between the Council of Governors (CoG)and the National Government.

This is the third cancellation made albeit at the last minute after millions of tax payer’s money have been spent on preparations.

Differences have emerged over who between the CoG and the national government should have planned the meeting thus resulting into cancellation of the forum that was set to take place at the Whitesands hotel from today(November 20th)

“After consultation with partners, the planned governors and deputy governors’ induction meeting scheduled for Mombasa County has been postponed indefinitely. An appropriate date and venue will be communicated in due course. We apologize to all stakeholders for the inconvenience caused,” the CoG said in a statement on Friday evening.

Sources however intimate that Mwangi Kiunjuri led Devolution Ministry called the Hotel and cancelled the bookings after CoG leadership complained that the event was a Governors’ event not that of the National Government.

JP Governors are said to have influence the cancellation but their NASA counterparts seem unperturbed by the move claiming they would not have attended either “since it was going to be a coronation forum.”
A power struggle has ensued between the JP and NASA governors as the latter seek to oust the sitting Chair of the Council, Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok in favor of Kwale’s Salim Mvurya, a move allegedly supported by President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto in a bid to bridle Mombasa’a Hassan Joho and Kilifi’s Amason Kingi.
