On Monday, the Ministry of Education issued a notice stating that they have reduced the fees for secondary school students.

According to the notice, secondary day school students will not have to pay while boarding students will pay a total of Sh53,000.

“In order to ensure a 100 per cent transition for learners and remove burden from parents, the parent component of Sh9,374 has been taken up and as such, learners in day-schools will not pay any fees,” reads the notice in part.

Boarding students will also receive Sh22,240 each year as part of government subsidy plan.

As part of the deal parents of day school students must settle all pending school fees before January 2018 in order to receive funding from the government.

“The first disbursement is in December and subsequent disbursements are in April and August each year or as resources flow from the Treasury,” says Ministry of Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.
