Police are investigating an incident where the body of a man who was missing was found in a dam in Elburgon, Molo, Nakuru County.

The man identified as Samuel Ngugi went missing on October 22, 2025 and the matter was reported to the local station.

His body was found at Karia dam within the Ndimu area of Elburgon the following day, police said. He is suspected to have died by suicide.

This is the same spot his twin brother had died by suicide years ago. The motive of the incident was not known.

The deceased’s sister said he had threatened to die by suicide at the spot.

The body had no visible injuries when it was discovered, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend.

Police statistics show up to five cases are at times reported daily in the worrying trend. Most of the victims are men, statistics show.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

The government says efforts are being made to address the menace.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man died after being assaulted by unknown people in Makueni’s Wote Town.

Police said Jeremiah Lankai Seruni died at a local hospital while being attended to on October 23.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and hunt for his killers, police said.

The motive of the murder is yet to be established, the police said, adding they were pursuing good leads over the incident. Murder cases have been on the rise amid efforts to address them. Up to eight murder cases are reported daily in the country.
